Meet the Renewal Delegates 13: Donna Garrett – Member of the Regnum Christi Territorial Committee
I grew up in Nebraska in a Catholic family having two sisters and two brothers. My oldest brother was born with Down Syndrome and continues to be one of the greatest influences in my life. I knew I was going to be a nurse dedicated to sick children since the age of five. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in nursing and spent most of that time working in the pediatric intensive care units. Among my other great blessings are my husband Jeff of 27 years and our four children ages 21-25.
I met the movement in the summer of 1999 and my life changed forever. I felt again that conviction that God had a definite plan for me. I left nursing and became a full time apostle within the Regnum Christi Movement. My marriage and my family life have been greatly impacted by our involvement in Familia, Challenge, Conquest and Mission Youth Missions.
From my earliest days in Regnum Christi I have always lived understanding that I was part of a much bigger spiritual family. I think this too was a great blessing. The movement in the Nebraska has always been in the diaspora. We understood from the very beginning the only way the charism would flourish was if we took responsibility for sharing it.
Despite the fallout from the scandal, I never once thought Regnum Christi would cease to exist. I have witnessed countless lives changed by the charism we bring to the work in our parishes and our dioceses. As I travel around the country as a representative on the Territorial Committee I have never been more convinced that the Regnum Christi Movement is a gift God has given to His Church and we are only just beginning to unwrap all the blessings He is bestowing on its members and all the souls who will encounter Him more deeply through our charism. It is with gratitude and love that I place my time, talent and treasure at the service of my spiritual family.
